چکیده

Sulfides are promising candidates for environment-friendly and cost-effective thermoelectric materials. In this article, we review the recent progress in all-length-scale hierarchical architecturing for sulfides and chalcogenides, highlighting the key strategies used to enhance their thermoelectric performance. We primarily focus on TiS₂-based layered sulfides, misfit layered sulfides, homologous chalcogenides, accordion-like layered Sn chalcogenides, and thermoelectric minerals. CS₂ sulfurization is an appropriate method for preparing sulfide thermoelectric materials. At the atomic scale, the intercalation of guest atoms/layers into host crystal layers, crystal-structural evolution enabled by the homologous series, and low-energy atomic vibration effectively scatter phonons, resulting in a reduced lattice thermal conductivity. At the nanoscale, stacking faults further reduce the lattice thermal conductivity. At the microscale, the highly oriented microtexture allows high carrier mobility in the in-plane direction, leading to a high thermoelectric power factor.

Revisiting some chalcogenides for thermoelectricity.

Thermoelectric materials that are efficient well above ambient temperature are needed to convert waste-heat into electricity. Many thermoelectric oxides were investigated for this purpose, but their power factor (PF) values were too small (∼10-4 W m-1 K-2) to yield a satisfactory figure of merit zT. Changing the anions from O2- to S2- and then to Se2- is a way to increase the covalency. In this...

Weak electron-phonon coupling contributing to high thermoelectric performance in n-type PbSe.

PbSe is a surprisingly good thermoelectric material due, in part, to its low thermal conductivity that had been overestimated in earlier measurements. The thermoelectric figure of merit, zT, can exceed 1 at high temperatures in both p-type and n-type PbSe, similar to that found in PbTe. While the p-type lead chalcogenides (PbSe and PbTe) benefit from the high valley degeneracy (12 or more at hi...

Ab-initio study of Electronic, Optical, Dynamic and Thermoelectric properties of CuSbX2 (X=S,Se) compounds

Abstract: In this work we investigate the electronic, optical, dynamic and thermoelectric properties of ternary copper-based Chalcogenides CuSbX2 (X= S, Se) compounds. Calculations are based on density functional theory and the semi-classical Boltzmann theory. Computations have been carried out by using Quantum-Espresso (PWSCF) package and ab-initio pseudo-potential technique. To estimate the e...

The conductivity and TEMF of MoS2 with Mo2S3 additive

Transition-metal chalcogenides are prospective thermoelectric materials. One of them is a molybdenum disulfide MoS2, which has a layered structure. MoS2 has a good potential to have a high value of thermoelectric quality factor due to a high value of thermo-EMF and low value of thermal conductivity. But a low value of its electrical conductivity suppresses the thermoelectric quality factor ZT o...
